Nutritionist :

Dietitians and nutritionists are health care specialists who sort through the science to give us answers to our most pressing questions on nutrition and health. Using the principles of food science and nutrition, they advise both the healthy and the sick on sound eating practices. As experts on dietary health, preventive nutrition, and diseases related to nutrient deficiencies, they establish guidelines and plan meals for hospitals, nursing homes, day-care centers, schools, fitness centers and other institutions. They make sure that meals served in such places are nutritionally balanced and appropriate. They also work one-on-one with athletes and people with special dietary needs to develop special diets. Mothers-to-be, diabetics and overweight children are examples of three groups who might seek out the services of a nutritionist. In addition, some people in this field teach at universities while others are involved in research.

Naturopathy :

Naturopathy is a multidisciplinary approach to health care that recognises the body's innate power to heal itself. Naturopaths believe your body requires the correct nutrients, adequate rest and relaxation, appropriate exercises, fresh air, clean water and sunlight. Naturopaths use various tools to assess your health. These help naturopaths to discover why you are ill and what assistance is required. Diagnostic tools used are iridology, diagnostic kinesiology, tongue diagnosis and laboratory tests. The tools used are catered to the individual and their complaint.

In Australia there is currently no law governing who can use the description 'naturopath' — basically, anyone can call themselves a naturopath. Naturopaths do not have to be registered in Australia. Some naturopaths in Australia have membership of professional bodies, such as ANTA — the Australian Natural Therapists Association — or AAMT — the Australian Association of Massage Therapists. These associations will only accept members from approved colleges or courses.
